     Regional Department Store Chain

  $250 million revenue, private with an equity sponsor

  Background:

The Company, a small, old line Midwestern department store chain, acquired a northeastern "small-box" specialty retailer and stretched company resources beyond the breaking point in this attempted  roll-up.  

  Result:

At the Board of Director's request, Wimmer Associates assessed the Company's retail operations, merchandising, inventory condition and eroding comparative store sales and recommended a sale of the business.  WA then developed and implemented a plan to sell all 28 stores.  The lender and owners received a final settlement that far exceeded expectations.
